This website belongs to Your Local Computer Guy. That's me, Mark, a one-man computer repair business in St Helens. If you have a question about anything on this page, WhatsApp or call me on 07428 101010.
The site doesn't set any cookies, so there's no cookie banner. There's nothing to agree to.
There's one small thing it does keep in your browser. Each visit gets a random visit number stored in the browser's session storage, so I can tell which pages were looked at in the same visit. It's not a cookie and it doesn't identify you. Your browser deletes it as soon as you close the tab.
No Google Analytics, no Facebook pixel, no advertising trackers. The fonts load from this site, not from Google.I don't sell or share visit data with anyone.
To see which pages are useful and which aren't, the site records:
Your IP address itself is never saved. The location lookup happens on my own server using IP Geolocation by DB-IP, and only the town and country are kept. On mobile data it's often wrong, because phone networks tend to show up as Manchester or London.
The site also makes a daily visitor code by scrambling your IP address and browser details with a secret key. The key is replaced every day and the old one is deleted, so it can link two visits made on the same day, but after midnight nobody can work out who it belonged to, me included.
Visit records are deleted automatically after six years.
Like almost every website, the server that hosts this one keeps standard access logs, which do include IP addresses. They're there for security and fixing faults, and they're deleted automatically after seven days.
If you WhatsApp, text or call me, your number and messages stay on my phone, the same as anyone you'd message. I don't copy them into any other system. I use them to talk to you about your repair, and occasionally to follow up afterwards to check everything's still working. No marketing, no mailing lists. WhatsApp itself is run by Meta under its own terms.
If you leave feedback on the review page, your message comes to me by email through a service called EmailJS. If you tick the box asking me to get back to you, the email address or phone number you type goes with it.
Under UK data protection law, visit statistics are kept under "legitimate interests": I need to know whether the site is working without being nosy about who you are. Messages you send me are used because you've asked me to help with something.
You can ask me what I hold about you, ask me to correct it or delete it, or object to me using it. Get in touch on the number above. Visit records don't contain your name or IP address, so in practice I can't pick yours out, but I'll always check.
If you're unhappy with how I've handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
